King Jesus was betrayed by one “friend” and denied by the others, beaten terribly, drug through town naked and nailed nude on a cross in public by his enemies. And He forgave His adversaries – yielding to His Father all the way.

Numerous times Jesus told His disciples instructions like these words in Luke 14:27 (NKJV) “whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple,” so Christ is telling us to follow Him – we must be totally submitted.

This doesn’t sound like pew warming or being a “Sunday Christian.” Christ isn’t calling for “lukewarm” believers or those that have a form of godliness. Jesus is telling would-be followers – they must surrender completely.

Also, the Master isn’t promising wealth or abundant prosperity, long-life or peaceful health. The Savior is saying the price for discipleship is total and complete death to self - just like Christ. We must resign ourselves to God.

Jehovah doesn’t need our help – we need His. We don’t ask God’s blessing on our plan, we’re blessed if He reveals His plan to us. The cross is the doorway to newness of life and it absolutely must be on God’s terms.

There’s no refuting it – the cross is everything. Like the disciples we accept it or we betray it, we yield to the cross or we deny it. At Golgotha long ago, one betrayed it, eleven denied it and One accepted it. By accepting it He changed THE world, by accepting it we’ll change OUR world.
