Larry Lilly's Letter Tuesday October 13, 2009

Yesterday during The Wabash Valley Pastor's Prayer Breakfast, my friend Keith Reedy, founder and president of Bibles For The Blind International talked about the ministry the Lord entrusted to him long ago. He publishes Braille Bibles and makes them available to the sight impaired around the world.

Keith and Susie have added to this ministry through publishing a number of tracts and devotionals, along with a few of my books. Now Keith is helping in the development of a method for the sight impaired to make more use of a computer like device that scans text, adds an electronic signal and this signal acts on the device so that the surface of the device feels like Braille and thus the person using the machine can read the Bible or book, even a letter from home. This is the most amazing development in centuries to help the sight impaired. It is commonly referred to as "Paperless Braille." I rejoiced as I listened to Keith talk about this amazing gift from God. Just prior to his conversion to Christ Keith's 15 minutes of fame was the song he wrote and performed, "Drinking Billy Beer" a humorous take off on President Carter's brother. Christ has made a grand difference in Keith's life.

While listening to Keith a statement leaped to my thirsty ear and I couldn't get rid of it.

Referring to the Braille work Keith summed up his speech with this gem:

"We are dispelling the darkness for the blind one dot at a time."

You probably already know that Braille is the use of raised dots with differing arrangements that correspond to letters of the alphabet.

The statement reminded me of the old Chinese saying "The longest journey begins with a single step."

Keith and his family have demonstrated that the person who is willing to doggedly do the little things, (One tiny dot at a time) will, in the long run accomplish more than will the person who fiddles around waiting for the "Big" opportunity. I think it is alright to wish, even prepare, for a big opportunity as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other and making progress or as in Keith's case making hay via one dot at a time.

Isaiah 9:2 "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." Through the vision of Keith and others, many are "seeing" though their fingers.
