a flame

with a robe
dipped

(Shrug.)
(Quiet voice.)
"Sure.
It's right here:

Now I saw
Heaven opened,
and behold,
a white horse.
And,
He who sat on him
was called
Faithful and True...
and on His head
were many crowns.

[TENDER VOICE.]
"Do you
believe It,
My beloved?"

(Silence.)
(Shrug.)
(Whisper.)
"I don't know."

[SORROWFUL GAZE.]
"Why,
My child?"

"Cuz."
(Look away.)
"I believed in
someone else,

a long time,
ago."
(Close eyes.)
"He also came
on
a shining
white horse."

[NOD.]
[QUIET VOICE.]
"That is not
Me,
My most
beloved."

(Squint, suspiciously,
at ceiling.)
"How.....
do I KNOW?"

[TENDER VOICE.]
"Believe,
My child."

(Shrug.)
(Look away.)
(Whisper.)
"I used to believe
in...
a lotta things."

[TENDER WHISPER.]
"Believe,
in Me,
child."

(Angry glare.)
(Suspicious voice.)
"YEAH?
WHY?
Why SHOULD I?"

[TEARFUL GAZE.]
"Because,
I AM
your
One,
and Beloved."

(Silence.)
(Close eyes.)
(Whisper.)
"His horse
became...
a horrible
monster,
like,
from a
nightmare."

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"And.....
his beautiful
face
became
contorted,
with adulterous
hatred:
nauseous,
and frothing,
at
the mouth."

[SILENCE.]

"Like...
he,
had
drunken
green poison:
with the
stench,
worse than
death,
and putrid
rotting
animal.
And
then,
he
vomited
it,
all over
me."

[PATIENT PAUSE.]
[TENDER VOICE.]
"Who AM I,
child?"

(Shrug.)
"Maybe....."
(Wipe away tears.)
(Weak laugh.)
"Maybe....
You're,
just another
knight,
Jesus:
on a shining
white horse?"

[SMILE!]
"Another,
My child?
There Is,
No
Other."
