Prayers

Not long ago I heard someone say we shouldn't bring our concerns about our pets to the Lord. Holy Smokes! Didn't this poor soul ever hear that the Lord wants us to bring ALL of our concerns to Him? "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7 KJV). And so I did.

When Trixie, my little miniature Dachshund, was only a few months old, she developed an ugly red lump near her eye. Over a span of three months, it got worse . . . and worse . . . and worse! Her veterinarian took one look at her and shook his head. "This kind of operation is risky on such a small dog. Too close to the eye.” He didn’t bother mentioning how costly! So, my darling little Trixie would be doomed to go through life with the ugly deformity. There was nothing I could do.

I was embarrassed when I took the poor little thing to the park. Everyone stared at my precious little friend. Yet sweet Trixie was only too happy to be out in God's beautiful world, barking at the ducks in the pond, smelling doggie doo-doo on the ground, and doing all the fun stuff puppies like to do. She didn't notice the repulsive stares. Trixie didn't know she was "different." She only knew she was loved.

Then it occurred to me . . . if Jesus loves children so much and even scolded His disciples when they shooed the little ones away, then surely He loves His critters just as much as I. In my mind's eye I saw a child, way back when, bringing a sick pet to the Lord. There was Jesus . . . healing the child's beloved little friend. Jesus would NEVER have said, "Get away from me, kid. You bug me! I got more important things to worry about."

So I decided to ask Jesus to heal little Trixie's eye. That night, I placed Trixie on the bed and knelt down beside her. "Trixie," I said, "bow your head. We're gonna ask the Lord to heal you." I nearly keeled over when that little puppy bowed her head! Those folks who surmise that animals don't understand are the unfortunate ones who are lacking in understanding. Trixie and I prayed a simple prayer. "Lord Jesus, please heal Trixie's eye." That's about as simple a prayer as one can offer to the Good Shepherd.

Within ONE WEEK the ugly red lump was gone. In fact, I couldn't even find a trace of it. Till her last day on earth, Trixie never even had a scar. The nasty growth that had grown to such a large size over a period of three months had completely disappeared! And the Lord didn't charge me a penny!

Jesus does want us to bring ALL of our worries and concerns to Him, no matter how large or small. Our Lord is kind and merciful to heal even a tiny dog's eye with His loving touch. Whatever we are troubled about Jesus wants so much to be involved in our lives. He wants us to bring every matter to Him. All we need do is ask Him.

Never, never, NEVER let anyone tell you that you cannot bring every concern you have to the Lord. He's there waiting . . . wanting to heal, help, and guide us, right where we are. There is no matter too great or too small for Him. Jesus cares enough to even hear the prayer of a puppy.

"For with God nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37 KJV).

"If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it" (John 14:14 KJV).

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6 KJV).
