My late husband was an addict in recovery, and one of the gentlest souls ever. Seems like many who were once on that road, become the nicest and most genuine ‘Repentants ’ out there. He chaired the local A.A. and N.A meetings for years and at the end of his life , because of his affliction and severe ongoing seizures, I would accompany him. Every meeting concluded with The Serenity Prayer.

‘God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
and Wisdom to know the difference.’

There are many ways to interpret it’s meaning, but for me I think it means we give our all, until there is nothing left to give, then reach that place of understanding that God really is in charge, not us. We are not God, and not every situation is ours to fix. Sometimes God uses us to make a difference, and sometimes there are other lessons to be learned along the way.
The Let go and Let God place. For His Glory, and in His Perfect Timing.

‘ Acceptance is the answer to all of my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life - unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in Gods world by mistake.’

All we can ever do is sow seeds. God is the Gardener and He alone determines which grow, and when.

Matthew 13, 3-9 :The Parable of The Sower.

Acceptance……………that there is nothing humanly more we can do.
Courage………..to keep on, regardless, and knowing that for The Believer there will be situation after situation that will wear us down, crush the Spirit, and leave us shredded at the foot of The Cross.

Then ,
the wonder of Jesus.
His pure, unconditional Love, His Spirit nursing our wounds, healing, filling us up anew, stronger and more resilient than ever.

The seeds of Wisdom, always most clearly viewed from the dirt, looking up from His bloodied feet: ‘I am nothing, have nothing, and can do nothing without Him.’
God is always in control.
