I first came to the Lord in the year 1978,the summer between my junior and senior year of highschool.
Being a child of the 70's, we had very loose morals when it came to alcohol,drugs,and many other things we shouldn't have done. Three years later I backslid back into my old life. I kept things togther pretty good for a long while or so I thought.
Like many people in thier twenties of that genartion, I met my soul mate and got married. We had our first child in 1986,a daughter, then our son came along in 1987, another daughter in 1989, and finally our fourth child, another daughter in 1990.
I thought life was going on pretty well, I had settled down and was caught up in raising my family. Tragedy struck on February 24, 1991, my wife went to get our baby out of bed on a Sunday morning, and when she did Katie was dead!
The cause of death was Sudden Infants Death Syndrom. She was 4 months old when she died. We were devastated,as anyone would be. I was hurting, confused,angry. Anger that I never experienced before,I took my anger out on God. I blamed God for my daughters death.
We got on with our lives the best we could. I started a job as a salesman for a car dealership and moved my way up to salesmanager. I was making very good money and thought life was back on track. I made sure my family had all the material things they needed.
Being the head of the household I worked all kinds of hours, never home had to travel some in my work,but the money was good. I made sure they had everything they needed except the important thing. That one thing was God, He was missing from the picture.My life and my families life was spiraling out of control and I didnt even see it happening.
I was loosing everything and was to busy to see it going on, my wife and I were growing apart at breaknet speed. Money is what I was worried about, and thats all.
One morning in 2003 I got up from bed, and my body was swelled up, and my blood pressure as sky high. As a good provider I go to work as usual, was getting sicker as the day went along. Finally I broke down and called my doctor.He had me go to the hospital thinking I was having heart problems. Through testing they found out my heart was fine, but my kidneys were failing.
Well three months later I was starting on dialysis, my wife had walked out. I was sick and broken, had my three kids to take care of me.
I went on disability, so my money situtuation changed drastically.Lost the house we were buying, was going through a divorce, and very sick. Still my anger just kept building against the Lord.
Six years later, we are now in 2009, I am still on dialysis, and to make matters worst, was a chronic pain patient,addicted to morphine and percoset. Four years I was on opiates everyday, all day long. I had a aunt, cousin and a dialysis nurse all praying for me. I did not know this at the time.
One day sitting in my room staring at my pills, which I did for many hours at a time. Something inside told me, you have to stop. Well I did, and the next 3 weeks were horrible. Anyone who has gone through withdrawl will attest to what I am saying.I feel you see what a little bit of hell will be like.
My cousin was telling me about this church she was attending,and they had a program on our local Tv station, so I watched the pastor one Sunday, and thats all it took. I rededictaed my life back to the Lord. God's grace is so awsome, He accepted me with open arms. God has taken any cravings for drugs away from me, depression was lifted, my life was good again.
That was 7 months ago and the blessings in my life have just been awsome. I thank Jesus Christ my savior for giveing my life back, and it is all for His glory.
