Sunday 9/20/09 Pastor Alex’s sermon: Family Matters -Part 2 Entrusting God with Our Valuable Possessions I Samuel 1,I Samuel 2:1-21, II Samuel 11, 12, II Kings 4:1-7

I Samuel 1 - Hannah is barren and can’t have children. She vows to the Lord that if He gives her a son, she will give him back to the Lord. Samuel was born. Hannah trusted God and gave Samuel to the Lord by giving him to the Priest Eli to be trained as a priest.
I Samuel 2:21 The Lord gave Hannah 5 more children. God was in charge the WHOLE TIME! Hannah knew this and she prayed her faith. 2:1-10. Hannah had faith and was in a relationship with God. Not only did she get her one son, but she gets 5 more children.

II Samuel 11, 12- David has sex with Uriah’s wife, gets her pregnant and has her husband killed in the war. Then when the child is born, he is sickly and David prays for days for the baby to be healed by God. The baby dies anyway. Some people go to God with a AGENDA and pray for things they want. The Lord doesn’t always do as we want. The scripture says that the Lord afflicted David’s baby with sickness. Some people get angry with God for not doing what they pray for.
II Samuel 12:19-23 Once the baby dies, David gets ups, washes himself and ate some food. When asked, David said that the baby was dead and only David could go to him and not the baby come back to David. We should be like David and NOT get mad at God when we don’t get our way.

II Kings 4:1-7 The widow woman with child has no money and was in debt. Elisha told her to take the little bit of oil she had and pour it into vessels. The oil kept pouring out and filling many vessels. The widow woman was able to sell the oil and pay off her bills.
God is a God of Provisions = Finances!! If we TRUST God with what we value the most: family, children, finances , God will take what little we have and make more for us. We need to surrender our “stuff” to God. We need to TRUST God with it and He WILL provide for us!

**If we cry out to God, He will hear us.!!
**If we knock on the door, Jesus will open the door!!A common theme in the bible: If we do THIS then God will do THAT!Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen!! **God will make something ALIVE that is dead!!**God will make PROVISIONS no matter what the circumstances are!!
HAVE FAITH!! BELIEVE GOD!! PURSUE GOD!! TRUST GOD!!
