Children
I was so cute when my mommie brought me to G.G.'s woodpile in her mouth. I am an Orange tabby like my daddy and I had no brother or sister kittens so when mommie left me alone hidden there, I was afraid.
One day G.G.(great grandma Lashbrook) and her son and daughter-in-law decided to feed my mommie because she was skinny. Each day they gave her leftover human food that she loved. They never touched her as mommie was afraid to have a human do that. The food was put on the back deck in front of the big sliding glass door.
Sometimes the three adults ate on the deck at their table. I wanted to taste their food too so whem mommie was off hunting I sneaked up the big steps. I waited for G.G. to give me a taste and she did it.
Wow I liked that. They kept on feeding me whenever I came up. I was hungry by the time I climbed those giant steps.
When I was coaxed to take food from their fingers I felt a lot shy. But with all their soft words and sounds of aw and oo I gave in and gently nibbled on some m-m-m, m-m-m chicken bits. Soon I was allowing them to stroke me while I ate.
One day another lady came and was sitting out on the deck alone. I approached her thinking that she would feed me too. She reached down and started rubbing my nose, and ears. That felt great and soon I was rubbing up against her leg and foot. Then the unthinkable happened.
She picked me up and hugged me. There was no time for me to be afraid as she gave me a tummy rub that was sensational. Next she took me into the house to visit G.G.. That was a surprise for her. She thought that I would never allow anyone to touch me like my kitty mom. After greeting great grandma (G.G.) I was given some of my favorite food and taken outside again.
Other times the same lady came back to visit her mom and stroke me again. Once late at night and almost morning my mommie and I were out hunting and crossed the road right in front of the lady's car. Whew that was close! Another time her son was driving home late at night and almost morning and my mommie ran across the roadway again with me in hot pursuit. Eric slammed on the brakes and I sat down on the pavement. He waited until I felt ok to go on and then he went home.
Winter was coming soon. It was cold. G.G. opened up her big glass door a wee bit and let my mommie and I come in to get warm. She loved me and wanted to keep me but her son had allergies to me.
Finally the lady came again and her mom said that she should take me home because it was getting too cold for a kitty to stay outdoors in cold Canada. So when my mommie and I came in to get warm she picked me up. Mommie did not want to go with the lady as she was still afraid of people.
That was the last time I saw mommie kitty but I heard my mistress say that she had a batch of kittens in an abandoned dog house. Then one night when she was crossing the road again she did not make it. Now she is in heaven waiting for the rest of us. The humane society came and took the batch of kittens to find them new homes.
I am smart and I learn real fast. My mistress throws marbles and I fetch them just like a dog. My favorite is a thick, wide elastic band off of the brocolli. When I hear someone snap the band I come running to see where they are going to send it. Then I chase it to play with it.
My mistress always says 'Bring it back now,Don't chew it.' I love to chew on it and flip it and catch it then bring it back for her to fling it again. Sometimes when I get tired, I need to power up so I take my elastic band and put into my bowl of dry cat food while I eat. That way no one can play without me.
One day my mistress went for a nap and left a boiling pot on the stove. It started boiling right over so I ran to her bedroom and meowed very loud as she is a bit deaf. She followed me out to the kitchen where she discovered the problem. I got a big hug and reward for helping her. Wow that felt real good.
Every day G.G. would call on the phone and say 'how is my kitty?' and my mistress would say 'oh, he is wonderful'. She loves me very much. I love Eric the most as he gives me lots of tummy rubs and back rubs.
To name me seemed to be a problem for my new owners. Ginger seemed nice, Tiger was ok, Pusscat wasn't bad, Orange Kitty was a little fruity I thought. In the end my mistress decided to call me 'Wonderful Kitty' because when she opened her Bible after asking what should she call me, it was at a place that said,' His name shall be called Wonderful.' So 'Wonderful Kitty' is my name. Being a great pet is my game.
There are no other pets living in with us but the grand doggies come a lot and I run for cover. Tamika is a golden retriever but she is not as smart as me so I always hide and she sniffs me out, then I rehide before she sees me. She was left at her home for a while as she had a batch of ten puppies. That kept her really busy and played her out. She was a good mommie to them my mistress said. They all were black as their daddy. Dogs like other colored dogs too.
Mickey is the other grand doggie and he is a shitzu, a little on the miniature side. He likes to bark at me and chase me when he gets the chance. I am uncatchable! (uhuh, uhuh)
My friends are Foxy the fox, Bambi the young deer, Cherry bear and her three cubs and endless turkeys from the forest. Foxy likes to chase me and then I chase him. He comes in the evening and if I am not outside already he calls me in a very scary voice. He is funny.
Deer come around and chase me out of the garden because they know they are not allowed in so why should I be. They stamp their hooves and make a hissing sound. I make a bee line for the house. I like to eat lettuce sometimes.
Cherry bear is named that because she climbs the Master's cherry tree to eat and eat and eat until her tummy hurts. I think cherries are yucky. When my Master tries to get a picture of her there she makes like she is shy and then hurries down to walk away quick.
When her triplets are with her she gets them to climb a tree at the edge of the forest until she thinks it is safe for them to "come on down." ( as Bob Barker used to say)
I like to eat turkey but not those wild turkey friends of mine. They are afraid of Foxy because he acts like a dog and chases them. I wonder what he would do if he caught one?
I like to run fast after flutterbys. My mistress calls them that while other people call them butterflies. She says there is no butter on them and they probably got it mixed up. They sure do flutter fast by me. ( snicker, snicker)
At Christmas time I get presents too under the tree. Treats, marbles, little bouncy balls, and a can of tuna, my favorite. I love Christmas trees. I climb into them and knock the pretty balls off when I try to make them swing and twirl.
My birthday is at the same time as the grandson Skyler and the son-in-law Bill in April. Easter is about that time too so we can celebrate it all with an Easter egg hunt. I have to watch that those pesky chipmunks that I love to catch do not get to the chocolate eggs before the children do. Tamika helps with that job but then she also wants to eat the eggs even though chocolate is not good for her. I hate chocolate. Yuck!
They sure do like egg hunting. I could show them where each one is but that would not be fair eh? The egg hunters are the grandchildren named Chuck, Ashley, Ricky, Lucas, Tristan, Ryan, Gabriel and Skyler. I am used to them now and allow them to touch me now and then.
Once in a while I play the piano. No one seems to recognize the tune I am playing but then some people just do not have a good ear for music like Wonderful Kitty.
