I’ve heard it said “It’s all in the name,?and I must admit there is one Name that is my all in all. That is the Name of Jesus. No other name refreshes or revives my soul and spirit the way the Name of Jesus does.

A label is a word that describes the character of someone or something. God's Word gives Jesus many “labels?which help me to know Him better and to understand more of who He is.

Prince of Peace.
How thankful I am to hear my beloved Savior called-or labeled-the Prince of Peace! It lets me know that He comes to me from the Father in peace. Though I have sinned and offended God, Jesus comes with His arms outstretched in forgiveness and goodwill. What a comfort that is!

Mighty God.
This designation assures me that Jesus is sovereign! I live in a broken world, with a known enemy who is living and active. And yet Jesus is the Mighty God! In the eternal scheme, He WILL reign victorious! This promise brings peace and thanksgiving to my heart and soul!

Wonderful Counselor
He who knows all things, He who knows me better than I know myself, can give me wisdom and guidance in any situation. I am never alone—He is always with me, caring for me, looking out for me.

I could go on and on, for the Word offers many more “labels?for Jesus. But even considering just these three draws me into deeper fellowship with Him.

Labels can be wonderful when they attribute to someone, in this case, Jesus, many positive characteristics.

But they can be just as powerfully derogatory if we allow them to be. A recent article in our local paper told the tragic story of a 53-year-old woman who had grown up in a penal child welfare system. Labeled as 'incorrigible? she missed out on any opportunity to have a happy life or even to receive an education. That 12-letter label cast a negative taint on her entire life.

When we consider the labels often ascribed to our fellow humans, we need to take care to view others through the lens of God’s perspective. John 3:16 says it so well: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” God sees each and every person as invaluable through His eyes of love.

The challenge, then, is to see others labeled as “God’s beloved.? For when we do this, chances are that they, too, will come to know and love the precious Name of Jesus
