of your descendants...
who has any defect,
may approach
to offer the bread
of his God.
For any man who has
a defect
shall not approach:
a man blind
or lame,
who has a marred face...
who has a broken foot
or broken hand...
or a man who has
a defect in his eye...

That would discount
anybody who had to
wear....GLASSES!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Or....CONTACT LENSES!"

[CHUCKLE.]
[PATIENT GAZE.]

"Or....READING GLASSES,
for THAT MATTER!"

[PATIENT SIGH.]

"WHOEVER saw a RABBI,
or a PRIEST, or PASTOR...
or....a MINISTER,
NOT wearin' a pair 'a
GLASSES?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

"NOBODY in those DAYS,
was NEARSIGHTED?
Or,
FARSIGHTED?
Or....
over FORTY?"

[SILENCE.]

"Aw!
Come on!"

[PATIENT, LOVING
GAZE.]

"That's ridiculous!
Who WERE these
guys,
ANYWAY?
Even, Brad PITT
has to wear GLASSES!"

[CHUCKLE.]

"Look at George CLOONEY!"

[SMILE.]
"What about Mr. Clooney,
My beloved?"

"Huh?
Well, eh.....Ya know:
he's GEORGEOUS,
and all.
So,
all these priests of
Aaron, were....
HUNKS?"

[BURST OUT LAUGHING!]

"Well?
None of 'em, had
any physical DEFECTS,
or anything!"

"Read My Word,
child."

"I am!

Yeah!
It says, right HERE...
You were discriminating
against the HANDICAPPED!"

[SILENCE.]

"Your LAW was too HARSH!
And......CRUEL,
LORD!
It made all those guys,
with physical defects,
to feel less VALUABLE!
And..less..LOVED!"

[QUIET VOICE.]
"Is that how
you feel,
My child?"

YOU BET!"
"ABSOLUTELY!"

[LONG SILENCE.]
[TENDER VOICE.]

"Ya mean,
THAT ONE,
AGAIN?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

(Shrug.)

gotten SUED!"

(Squint.)

Who made me get
my first pair'a
GLASSES.....
before I was TWO?"

[CHUCKLE.]

"The One Who
gave me really,
really FLAT FEET?"

[CALM NOD.]
"Go on."

(Squint.)
(Chomp on a piece
of celery smothered
in Catalina dressing**
and sour cream.)
".....the ONE WHO
didn't make me as
CLEVER,
or...ATTRACTIVE,
as my BROTHER
or SISTER?"

[CHUCKLE.]

"THAT ONE?"

[PATIENT NOD.]

(Shrug.)
(Munch on another
smothered piece 'a celery.)
(Shrug.)

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

(Thoughtful silence.)
(Munch.)
"DIDN'T THOSE
guys PROTEST?"

"No."

"Why NOT?"

"Cuz."

"That's not enough!"

[PAUSE.]
[SMILE.]
"B-cuz."

(Laugh!)
"Still....!"
(Mumble.)
"Well....it just wasn't
very AMERICAN,
that's all!"
(Mumble.)

[LOVING SMILE!]
"Read My Word,
child."

(Scowlful munch.)
"Why did the PRIESTS
have 'ta be SO.....
PERFECT?"
(Sip some Nestle Pure Life
Strawberry and Kiwi Flavored
Water***.)

"Tell Me,
child."

(Shrug.)
"I dunno."

[TENDER GAZE.]
"Tell Me."
