With Joy
God knows those who are His. As Jesus said, “I know My sheep and they know Me. (John 10:14-15)”. And God is able to keep those who are His. Again Jesus says, “no one is able to snatch them away from the Father’s care.” (John 10:27-30). Jude here says that God “is able to keep you from falling”, that is, from falling away from Him permanently. There are many opportunities in this life to stumble, but God keeps us from “fall(ing) beyond recovery” (Romans 11:11) because, “though (we) stumble, (we) will never fall for the Lord holds (us) by the hand. (Ps. 37:24)”. If you belong to God, you can be sure that no matter what happens or how you stumble through doubt, fear, and uncertainty, God holds you by the hand and He will bring you through it all safe and sound carried in His arms. We can know this because God has promised it and, “what He has begun, He will complete (Philippians 1:6)” because He is faithful (1 Thessalonians 5:24, Deuteronomy 7:9) and nothing shall separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39). As Paul said, “I know who I have believed in and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto Him against that day. (2nd Timothy 1:12)”.
Not only does He keep us, but He perfects us into the image of His Son. He does this by His Holy Spirit who works in us through the circumstances and trials of this life, through His Word, and through our prayers. In the moment when we go to see Him face to face, we will be completely perfect. As John says, “we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is. (1st John 3:2)”. In that moment we will truly see God’s great joy over us. He rejoiced over us when we first came to Him. As Scripture says, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." (Luke 15:10). This rejoicing is done by God for elsewhere Scripture also says, “As a man rejoices over his new bride, so your God will rejoice over you. (Isaiah 62:5)”. He takes joy in us whom He created for His glory (Isaiah 43:6-7) and He takes great pleasure in displaying His grace and love through us (2 Timothy 1:9) because He has saved us, cleansed us, and perfected us. We were created for Him and He loves us beyond comprehension, or as Scripture says, “…(His love) surpasses all understanding… (Ephesians 3:19)”.
Though the enemy tried to mar God’s wonderful creation of man by deceiving man into sin, yet God will save a people for Himself, and restore His perfect image in us. Therefore, to God who loves us, saves us, and keeps us; to Him belongs all wisdom and glory and honor and majesty and power forever and ever! Amen! May the Lord one day present you to Himself, having rescued and restored you by His love and mercy and to His glory.
Point to Ponder
Do you belong to God? Or do you feel that you’ve fallen away? Simply cry out to Him, for even now He is calling you to Himself. Did you know that God delights in those who are His and, “who hope in His unfailing love” (Psalms 147:11)? Or that God sings about You? Scripture says, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty One will save you. He will rejoice over you. You will rest in His love. He will sing and be joyful about you.” (Zeph. 3:17).
Let’s pray, “Our all mighty, all knowing, ever present God – You who makes us, saves us, keeps us, perfects us – we thank You, our Father, for keeping us in Your hands and assuring us with Your promise that You will never forsake us or abandon us (Deuteronomy 31:8, Hebrews 13:5). May we always bring joy and pleasure to Your heart as You look upon us and watch over us. You alone are God, the saving and faithful God (Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 86:15, Psalm 136:2). All glory and majesty come from Your radiance. All dominion and power are Yours forever, for from You and through You and to You were all things made (Romans 11:34-36). And now, may You be Lord of all our lives, may we follow Your will, may we bring You glory, and may we fall in love with You. For You alone deserve all we have to give. Make us worthy of the life to which You have called us (2 Thessalonians 1:11). By Your power, Lord, fulfill all our good intentions and faithful deeds so that everyone will give honor to Your name, Lord Jesus, because of our lives and that we too may be honored in You. We know this is only possible because of Your underserved favor (2 Thessalonians 1:12). To You be all glory in all the nations throughout all generations (Romans 11:36, Ephesians 3:21, 1 Peter 4:11), forever and ever! Amen.”
