and commanded him
to be called.
Then they called
the blind man,
saying.....
Be of good cheer.
Rise,
He is calling you.

HOMEWORK!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]

"Yeah; there's,

AFTER it."

(Look up at the ceiling.)
"What should I SAY?"

[PATIENT GAZE.]
[MOVE A THUNDER
CLOUD OVER TO THE
EASTERN SKY,
OVER SAN ANTONIO.]

(Grimmace!)
"I don't know what to SAY."

[SILENCE.]

"Hey, LORD?"
(Take off reading
glasses.)
"Was JESUS really
a RABBI?"

[SILENCE.]

"He didn't go to
RABBINICAL school!"

[PATIENT SILENCE.]
[TOUCH THE MISTY
HAZE FLOATING ACROSS
THE MOON, IN THE BIG
TEXAS SKY.]

"I'm HUNGRY.
I'm gonna get somet'in
to eat."
(Point up to the ceiling.)
HOLD that
thought."

[LOVING GAZE.]

(Sounds of refrigerator
opening and closing.)

[GAZE.]

"I'm BACK!"
(Silence.)
"DID You know,
that SOUR CREAM
tastes good,
on ANYTHING,
LORD?"
You could probably
put sour cream on a
DONUT,
and it would TASTE good."

[SMILE.]

"Where was I."
(Munch on some lettuce.)
"Oh, yeah: the rabbi."
(Squint up at ceiling.)
Was He a RABBI?"

"Who,
child?"

(Squirm.)
(Glare up at ceiling.)
"I don't think,
half the time,
You pay ATTENTION
to ME!"

"I hear your
every word,
beloved."

(Spoon up the
last bit of cottage cheese*.)
(Munch.)
"Even in THOSE days....
they probably had to
go to school, and stuff."
(Squint.)
"They probably even
got some sort'a SCROLL,
that said they had
passed the SCHOOL!"

[SILENCE.]

"SO?
What HAPPENED?"

[SILENCE.]

(Silence.)
"I don't like this
homework question,
Lord. It's too BROAD."

[PAUSE.]
"Are you following
Me,
child?"

(Shrug.)
"I TRY."
(Put down the spoon.)
(Shrug.)
(Squint.)
(Nod.)
(Grimmace.)
"I'm TRYING."

[GENTLE NOD.]

So Jesus answered
and said to him,
What do you want Me
to do for you?
The blind man
to Him,
Rabboni,
that I may
receive
my sight.
