"When the wicked thrive, so does sin, but the righteous will see their downfall." (Proverbs 29:16)
One of the mysteries of life is the fact that the wicked do sometimes thrive. When they are in control of a family, a business, a town, or a country there is an abundance of sin. That is their basic nature, and the normal consequence of their lives. The righteous must always remember that the wicked only thrive for a moment, and that the righteous will prevail in the end. The best description of the thriving of the wicked is the picture drawn in Psalm 73. A man of God despaired at the prosperity of the wicked, but when he turned his eyes back onto the Lord he saw that the wicked stood on "slippery ground", and that their fall would be soon and complete. Don't fret, the wicked fail, the righteous prevail, because the Lord has said so. Believe it.
