Need Indeed

While attending her 15th re-union, Linda Conn met members of her graduating class for the first time since she had left high school. During the first hours of the re-union activities, Colleen Deatherage mentioned that another of Linda’s old classmates and friends, Janet Armour, who was not present at the event, had a daughter to die of a rare form of cancer.
“She could really use the calm and strength of God’s Word right now,” remarked Colleen. “If my memory is correct, I recall that Janet doesn’t have a Bible at home. Not even a small pocket, size one.
“Hold on, Colleen,” responded Linda eagerly. “I need to go out to the car for a moment. Could you hold my spot until I get back, please? Thanks.” Within less than five minutes, Linda returned with a small pouch-like bag.
“What’s that thing?”
“It’s my ‘Need Indeed’ pouch. Every day I put a little money in the pouch. Whenever I find a need to give someone a little help, I go to my ‘Need Indeed’ pouch. I believe this is one of those ‘Need Indeed’ moments. Don’t you think?”
“Need Indeed’! Where did you come up with that idea, Linda?
“At times it’s a real hassle to go through my bag to come up with change to help those in need. So while reading the Bible, Jesus mentioned the poor. The poor, whether it be financial or spiritual, have a need. Well, it sounded kinda nice when I put ‘need’ and ‘indeed’ together. But didn’t Jesus tell us to help those in need? Right! So I put aside this money, not a whole lot, to make it handy for situations just like this. Janet has a need. So if you don’t mind, could you take this money I’m going to give you and get her a Bible? I think she will appreciate it. You can tell her that I will pray for her and her loss. I really believe she will appreciate it. I’ll call her as soon as I get to the airport or when I get home in Houston, Texas.”
Linda smiled then said: “You know maybe doing what I’m doing is helping me most of all if you can believe that.”
Linda’s method for being a servant influenced Colleen so that she too developed for herself a “Need Indeed” pouch as well to help the needy indeed!
