Sunday 8/16/09 Pastor Alex’s sermon: Emergency Relationships (ER) 4 week series
Matt 16:13-16, James 1:2-8, Phil 3:10-12

CHRIST: Matt 16:13-16 We are relational beings. We were created to be in relationships. Jesus asked his disciples who people thought he was. Peter said he thought He was the Christ, the Son of God. Peter had come to his “crisis of belief”. Paul came to his “crisis of belief” in Acts, on the road to Damascus, This is when Jesus came to Paul and asked him why was he kicking against the goads? Jesus knew that Paul knew Jesus was the Messiah even though Paul was trying to kill Christians. We, ourselves, do things we know are wrong and we need to come to our “crisis of belief” too.

*******Coming to our Crisis of Belief:

1) Jesus is the Messiah: He is the Lord, the way, the truth and the life. We must believe this, accept this and live with this belief.

2) Quit kicking against the goads: We need to stop doing things our way and do them God’s way!

*******Two Traumas that Mess with Our Relationship with Jesus:

1) Doubt: James 1:2-8 Don’t doubt God. Its unstable and double minded. Don’t expect to receive anything from God when we doubt! Don’t be a doubting Thomas but believe and act on FAITH! Thomas was there and saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. Yet Thomas still had doubt. Jesus later went to Thomas and said for him to touch Him. Jesus got rid of Thomas’s doubt and He will remove our doubt too.

2) Lack of understanding/knowledge:
James 1:2-8 Ask God for wisdom in faith with no doubt. Jesus will give us - liberally - give us wisdom if we ask without doubting. God will not make fun of us and think we are stupid when we ask Him for wisdom. Heaven will Bust In on the scene and give us information that will bring us thru!! GOD IS WAITING FOR US TO PURSUE HIM !! God had an abundance for us believers that is just sitting there waiting on us. Our benefits are waiting!

Jesus said He has come to give us life in abundance, to the fullest. We need to have our “crisis of belief”. Jesus is the Son of God and He came to save us! Everything that is His is Ours! We must be enthusiastic about the process of God. He wants to give us life and we are heirs of His abundance that He gives us freely!
Phil 3:10-12 We need to know Jesus and his Resurrection Power!!
