I ran my fingers along the wall in desperate attempt to place my surroundings. How long had I been in here? The cold blackness creeped around every part of my body as I forced to place one foot in front of the other. Fear gripped my mind and continually tried to freeze my steps. I pushed on with a determination that surprised even myself. How did I get here? The air was icy cold and it seemed as though I could turn and stare evil straight in the face. Was he watching me? Would I ever make it out? Weariness was beginning to take over, and all I could think about was the paralyzing doubt that filled my mind with each torturous step. If I had only known,I never would have taken this path. It seemed so full of freedom...I suddenly tripped over something and it shot pain through my leg as I fell to the ground. I felt cold metal and realized it was a chain. I stood back up, determined to continue to try and find my way out. My fingertips were beginning to blister as they continued to rub along the wall in attempt to guide my way. There was nothing but pitch black all around and whispers that were beginning to grow louder. This was not what I bargained for...he told me I would be better off and able to enjoy life more if I came this way. He said there would be more freedom to do what I wanted! The air was getting harder to breath and my heart felt heavy enough to be made of stone. Would I be trapped as a prisoner of these dark walls forever? Fear gripped me too much even for tears. I knew I had made the wrong choice. I had been blinded by hurt, and a greed to right the wrongs done to my heart. The more I began to realize the lies I had been told, the louder the whispers grew. I could suddenly hear the words,..."you're not worth it to Him", "you've walked too far away for Him to save you", "no one cares", "you can't ever take it back, so why even bother", "He can't use you anymore". The words were growing so loud I couldn't think of anything else. I was tripping over so many chains now that it was impossible to walk any further. I knew there would only be one way out. Would He come for me? WAS I worth it to Him? I suddenly felt hot breath on my neck, and icy chills ran down my spine as he snickered the words "you're not His anymore". It was then, with all the strength I had left, that I cried out for the only source of rescue, and attempted to run as fast as my legs could carry me. A crack of light suddenly appeared. It was a doorway. I heard screams from the dark hall behind me as I fell through the door to the ground. I felt the warmth of two strong hands reach down to lift me up, I knew the face I would meet. It was Him, the only one able to rescue me from the prison I was in. My mind and heart raced as I awaited what He would say to me. Then He finally spoke, "Welcome home...come, walk with me. I've been waiting for you."
