Bridges
I have always been fond of bridges. I would say it’s on my list of favorite things.
Interestingly enough, there is a feeling of fear going over bridges though. Somewhere inside is the question of whether or not we will make it to the other side safely.
Bridges have always been a prominent symbol to me in the spiritual realm as well. This always adds value to an object for what it represents in life and matters within.
A bridge can be a road you cross made of pavement or of stone to get to the other side of an otherwise, uncross able pathway.
A bridge can be perceived as a good connection you have with someone, an “in” to some higher opportunity that could benefit you and others.
A bridge can be a vision of making it to the other side of something and the avenue to reach that goal, what steps to take, for entry.
I have built bridges in life with people along the journey in friendship and a spirit of love. I regret that also far too many times though, I burned many bridges and mostly by choice.
I realize now that I burned bridges because I was so intent on making it on my own, finding my way, and not being really connected to anyone or anything.
It can be scary feeling close to or even dependent on someone or something, and I never particularly cared for feeling vulnerable in any way, but many times there is no choice but to cross over that bridge where we find we are rejoicing we made that leap.
I once heard Christ described as a bridge between us and God. He laid down his very life for us. He is the bridge to heaven.
He makes way on the road for our crossing the path of God’s spirit to life and the purest form of love. He makes the way where we would not be able to go if he had not built a bridge.
His love is unconditional, and because of his love we want to cross that bridge. And this is a bridge that cannot and will not be broken.
One of the best aspects about this bridge of Christ, is there is no toll. We don’t have to pay a fine, for he even paid that for us.
