Psalm 45 was a very great gift. The celestial mirror showed us a picture of our true form, but there was also given the task of making our hunger and thirst to be for rightousness. Lessons 42, 43 and 44 exposed us to our very worst doubts and showed that our own strength is not enough to do this. We can feel the force of life in our bodies, but it is not strong enough to save us for ever and cannot guide us in spiritual actions. We know our native strength contains too much weakness and we wonder where else to look for help.
It is in that weakness that we must look to find our true strength. Knowing our frailty gives us the the shock we need to search beyond ourselves for the true hunger. Help is not very far away, it is built into the beauty and majesty of every moment. Perhaps we have forgotten how to look but the truth is not hard to see. We are looking to find our God not because we want to prove that He exists, we are past that. We are looking through better eyes to see what He is showing us.
46. God is Revealed
God is our hope and our haven, a very near help in our trials.
We will not be afraid, though the earth be moved and the mountains carried to the sea,
Though the flood waters rage and the roaring trembles the hilltops. So it is.
There is a river and its many streams make glad the city of God,
The holy place and the dwelling of our Most High.
God is in her midst and she shall not be moved, He will give her his timely help.
The godless made wars and their kingdoms shifted, but when the Lord spoke the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of our fathers is always our refuge. So it was.
Come and see the works of the Lord, He has made the earth desolate,
But wars will end, the armies will be broken and their weapons will fail.
Be still and know that I am God, I will be honored among the heathen and exalted in the earth.
The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of our fathers is our refuge. So it shall be.
This is a lesson of action after the emotional look at the ideal person that lives in our hearts. God is in his city but He is also very near to us: his life in us is our gift and to feel alive is to feel his presence. He made the earth and the life that is in it and has always been the refuge of those who know. Look around yourself with all your faculties, not just with reason but with actions and feeling. Act and feel like the one who knows the truth and it will be revealed to you every day. We only need to see to know the truth, but we must come and look before we can ever have a chance to see.
We are on a high point on our path through the psalms. It is a place of vision, like a lookout on a nature trail. It gives a view of the Holy City on a far away hill where the seven rivers are said to flow. If you can be still and learn to open your eyes, maybe you can see it in the distance. It is the crystal city on the mountain described in Isaiah and Daniel and Revelations. It is a vision that has been seen by men of every generation since Adam and now it is time to rejoice.
