Suzanne Bailer Smith, author of "Laughter: A Woman's Best Defense" a great laughter inducing book along the lines of a "Maude" girl may have given a giant step toward eliminating the National Debt with her advice as to what to do with teenagers; especially teens who do not grasp the importance of the hallowed halls of education.

After a long, failing attempt to get her son to buckle down in high school, Suzanne wrote the following ad:

"Wanted: An unsuspecting couple, preferably Attila the Hun and Wife, to rent, lease, adopt, board, or hold in bondage for a period of five years, one 16 year-old male jock. Fringe benefit: can provide you with a free education because he has all the answers. Huge bonus for the first party who answers this ad."

Ms. Smith is a good though as yet undiscovered by the masses, writer. This ad, if it catches on could put her in the fiscal league with J. K. Rowling.

That teenagers have been the root cause of many maladies suffered by their parents and society at large is commented on by many and varied authorities in each historical era. Plato, Socrates, Seneca, to mention but a few. The Gospels tell of Jesus actually healing a person who lived in a cemetery, ran around naked, screaming, frightening normal citizens out of their wits, which causes many elite Bible Commentators to insist that due to his manner of dress, speech style, choice of living quarters, this creature was a teen. The Bible does refer to him as a Man of Gadara, but keep in mind Mary, the Mother of Our Lord, was but a teen.

After his encounter with Jesus it is said that he was clothed and his right mind. The idea of a teen being properly clothed and demonstrating a modicum of sanity causes many to doubt the veracity of the account, assuming it to be anecdotal. I personally take it at face value and rejoice in the miraculous power of the Lord.

I mention the above in the hope, probably vain, that some way, somehow your teen and my grand teen will come into personal contact with Jesus and be delivered. If this happens the teen will then need specialized counseling as they will enter a period of intense loneliness, for a sane teen is as rare as a mentally healthy Senator.
