Encouragement
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11-13 NKJV
God, help us, we need You and only You. In Your Word, you tell us that Your thoughts are thoughts of peace and a future and a hope and we just need to call and pray and seek. Yet, no one will stop and cry out to You.
We keep going on and pretending like nothing is wrong and we sweep it under the rug but the fact that we are not seeking cannot be covered up. Everything in darkness will be brought to light and needs to be. Anything hidden cannot and will not be healed; not because it is God’s fault but our fault. He says all through His Word to seek Him and we need to seek Him now.
Time is short as each person is speeding his way toward eternity. Seventy or eighty years are not a long time and God calls to each one of us to seek Him. How do we seek Him? It is right there in the scripture.
First we need to know the thoughts that God is thinking toward us. We learn the thoughts of God by reading His Word. The same would be true of any letters that were written to us. The words show us who wrote them and usually tells much about them.
Second, we need to call upon God. Yes, we do that in prayer by simply talking to Him but I also think we are living in a time when we need to cry out to Him. Sharing our innermost thoughts and feelings with God is a form of seeking.
Third, we search for Him. Searching involves everything we just discussed and more. We search for God in His creation, in beauty and in song. We look for God through television, movies and video. We discover Him in people but we must search with our whole hearts. Finding Him must be the desire of our heart, always. While there is still time…
We are truly in the valley of decision, for the Church as a whole and each of its members. What will we choose? More of the same? Or will we seek God for His will and be obedient to what He wills, no matter what? God is good and His plans and purposes for us are good also. He is waiting to see what we will do…
