Romans 8:31-32 – “What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”

The almighty God who made heaven and earth (Psalms 121:2), who put the stars in place and calls them all by name (Psalms 147:4), who made us and placed us in the time and place that He determined (Acts 17:26) – this same God who knows all things (John 21:17) and upholds all things by he word of His power (Hebrews 1:3) – the one and only true and living God who foreknew us, chose us, saved us, sanctifies us, and promises us glory in Him (Romans 8:29-30) – this same God works everything out for our good (Romans 8:28). He is for us, He is on our side. As Scripture says, “For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory. (Deut. 20:4)”. Be they enemies of fear, doubt, anxiety, worry, depression, despair, anger, sin, the world, or the devil. For as Scripture says, “greater is He (God) who is in you than he (the devil) who is in the world. (1 John 4:4)”. Therefore, do not be afraid of your enemies or the things you see happen all around you for God has given you victory (Deut. 3:2). He will go before you and guard behind you (Isaiah 52:12). Do not be afraid of the things that come against you to rob you of your joy and peace for God has given you victory over them and they shall not stand against you (Joshua 10:8). As Scripture says, “no weapon formed against you shall prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)”. Not trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword - or recession – (Romans 8:35). For despite all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. (Romans 8:37).

God gave His own Son for us, He humbled Himself and died for us. Therefore, dare we doubt that He will take care of us? Dare we doubt that He will give us the things we need and abundantly pour His blessings out on us? As Jesus said, “what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! (Matt 7:9-11)”. God has already given us Himself, will He not take care of every other need? He is Jehovah-Jireh, God-provider (Genesis 22:14). As Scripture says, “God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches (Philippians 4:19)”. Therefore, don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything make you requests known to God (Philippians 4:6) and do not worry saying, “what shall we eat” or “what shall we drink” or “what shall we wear” – for God knows that you need these things (Matthew 6:31-32). Do not fear the present or the future for God has declared the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10). The Lord says to you, “Be still and know that I am God. I will be honored by every nation. I will be exalted in all the world. (Ps 46:10)”. Remember, that though in this world we will have trouble (John 16:33), God gives us His peace (John 14:27) and what we do suffer is not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18) for suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope that will not let us down because of God’s love which He has poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us (Romans 5:3-5).

Point to Ponder

What has you worried and anxious right now? Something in your life or on the news? When fear starts to choke you, say to yourself “God is in control and He will take care of me.” Is there some area of your life where you have been needing victory? Then take heart and cling to the promises He has made in His word, knowing that He is at work right now in your life and on your behalf to lift you up and give you that victory.

Therefore, let us pray, “Our great God, maker of heaven and earth, who loved us and ransomed us and calls us by name – thank You for who You are and for everything that You’ve done for us. Help us to remember that all things were made by You, through You, and for You – that You are ever in absolute control of everything. Help us to rest in the myriad of promises You have given in Your word. Lord, right now we claim victory over fear and oppression, over anxiety and depression, over temptation and habitual sin, and over the world and the devil. For You have promised to be with us forever (John 14:16), so who shall separate us from Your love (Romans 8:35-39)? When the enemy begins to whisper lies and doubts and fears into our hearts and minds, Lord, remind us again of the price that You paid to save us – not mere silver or gold, but the precious blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19). Remind us that the final victory is Yours as You have declared for You have conquered sin, death (1 Corinthians 15:57, 2 Timothy 1:10), Satan, and the world (John 16:33). Therefore, oh God, all our hope is in You and we wait on You. Amen.”
