A Stinky Poem Entry for Mini Challenge The Dracurhino and His Lady Fair

Just two doors down this quiet street
Our neighbor of great compose
Met the acquaintance of a stranger
The friendliest of rhinos

She shared her brief encounter
Of an uninvited guest
Who appeared to have such manners
A story and request

“Alas, I wish I would have had an inkling
Of just how it would be
To have let that dracurhino in
For a spot of ‘mato tea”

“At first he looked so very dapper
In his cape and vest of red
With his mesmerizing dialect
I was hypnotized by what he said”

“Pardon Madam for interrupting
Such a lovely summer eve
Your eyes behold the sunset
And your lips do make me grieve”

“For I do miss my sweet lady fair
Whom for a fortnight I’ve not seen
Since she sits behind a cage of steel
My love that’s not so lean”

“Her skin though not of velvet
Always tantalized my mind
The way she snorted love songs
And wiggled her behind”

“The two of us were feasting
On a circus tent layed flat
On the outskirts of a castle
Invited by a bat”

We sipped on apple cider
Fed each other a ten course meal
When out of nowhere did they come
These beasts called man, to steal

Our dignity and liberty
They came with guns and chain
We attempted to escape them
Yet our endeavors were in vain

A net of woven rope and stench
Encircled my sweet lady fair
My only course of action
Was to throw her one last pear

“Oh my lovely I shall free you
Just count the starts and moon
Before you fret your pretty head
I shall arrive again so soon”

The men bragged of their accomplishment
Of how they won their prize
But didn’t care that my lady fair
Had huge teardrops in her eyes

I swore my vengeance at twilight
And noticed not the change
That had come upon me suddenly
My nature rearranged

My passive eating in muddy swamps
Would surely have no place
As I stood now clad in cape and hat
A fang upon my face

Though I had no taste for blood
But for vegetables and fruit
I was now a Dracurhino
And gardens would be my loot

I soon lost all self control
And now roam the countryside
In search of my snorting lovely
With legs and hips so wide

I try to fill the empty spot
That lies within my soul
But no matter how much I eat
I never feel quite whole”

“I listened to his painful tale,”
My neighbor shook her head
And wished that I could find his love
So the two could one day wed

The contents of my produce bin
And an acreage of farm
Soon became that rhino’s meal
He was so full of charm”

“Next time wrap the morsels
In newspaper if you please”
I pulled a bunch from our stack
Between a yawn and sneeze

“Hey, look at this,” I pointed
At a recent circus ad
“That looks like his lady fair
I know he will be glad”

We soon met up with that cape clad gent
Our findings we did share
And quickly as he could move
He marched right over there

While the greedy circus owner
counted profit while he sang
The cape clad rhino picked the lock
With his one and only fang

The two enormous soul mates
Held each other tight
And marched in unison as one
Under a star filled night….

“Come,” he spoke, “my lovely lady fair
Now that we are both so free
To a mud hole made in heaven
We’ve found prosperity

I kind of miss the days of old
When that rhino first stopped by
at first it was for produce
but we both know really why....

Really cute and fun poem, Janice. I can see this in a book for kids, illustrated with a pair of romantic rhino's, garden veggies, and an evil zoo-keeper such as described here. I pray you can do that someday.
