I was thinking of fences the other day, they come in so many forms and types, I wondered the purpose of each when it was built, that determined its length and height.

Some were short and just marked the boundaries, of someone’s front or back yard, low to the ground, for decoration only, they were pretty, but not meant to guard.

There were tall fences all made of metal, woven in links that you could see through, they marked off the space with metallic precision, but did not block off the view.

Other fences were tall and solid, made from so many pickets of wood, they marched along the boundaries, forbidding entry, what was inside was in there for good.

I built a fence like that around my heart, no more hurt would get to me, and I stayed a prisoner of my own device, not knowing what it would be like to be really free.

Jesus came and knocked on my fence, asking so gently to be let in, telling me softly that He would show me, how to live in joy and peace with Him.

I said 'yes' that day in such a small voice, not daring to really believe, but it was enough for my Savior to come, and all my sorrows and pain to relieve.

He tore down that fence that I’d patiently built, thinking it protected my heart, and let the fresh air of His grace and forgiveness, give me a brand new start.

Once I was ready, my heart ready to give, having learned what in God's eye was true, then, in His perfect timing, He made all my dreams come true.

Joy came in the day we met, with happiness following close behind, and I found the joy I thought I’d never have, when into one our two hearts were entwined.

No fence any more for the two of us, we can run and dance and be free, I think sometimes that my heart will just burst from all the joy that you give to me.

I thank God for the fences that once were there, for how else would I know, the wonder there is when they are torn down, and replaced by love's steady glow.

My heart just soars with praise and thanksgiving, that God has created me anew, and for the entire blessing that are my true riches, and most of all, that He gave me you
