Luke 19
King James Version (KJV)
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As we observe all around the United States the rally to Occupy Wall Street is spreading like wild fire. The question that arises in my mind is "how did the economics of the world come to this?" I do understand that there are some who are attending "Occupy Wall Street" who are demonstrating for different causes however; it is the state of the economy that has spark this fire. It is interesting that in Luke 19:12-13 that Jesus spoke a parable instructing ten servants to " Occupy till I come". Of course this is written in the King James version of the Bible....but what if we can learn from that very same parable today? What did Jesus mean when he stated,"Occupy till I come?" The word occupy means to live or be established in (a house, flat, office, etc. ( often passive ) to keep (a person) busy or engrossed; engage the attention of;( often passive ) to take up (a certain amount of time or space;to take and hold possession of, esp as a demonstration: students occupied the college buildings. Certainly, the meaning applies to what has been taken place in New York and all across America however: that is not what Jesus had in mind when he said," Occupy till I come." Jesus was correcting the Pharisee's false assumption that the Kingdom of God would come immediately. He gave instructions to the people of God on what their responsibilities are and what they should be doing until he comes back. The word occupy in this particular scripture means to "do business"
Therefore; Jesus was saying "do business until I come...." However: the citizens hated him and they refused him as being King over them. As the story continues the King returned and he asked for an accounting of the money that he gave them. This story applies to what is happening on Wall Street and our street. There will be an accounting of the money, time and talents that God has given us. In conclusion, God is not against investments or gaining interest nor is he against making money in general however: He is against all those who refuse to accept him as Lord and King...look at Luke 19:27," But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me." Jesus, concludes that all who will not accept him as King is his enemies...." Occupy until Jesus comes!
