BAM!
Why did Balaam hit me? I did nothing wrong. I was only trying to help.
Back onto the road but a short distance later…
“You brainless donkey, you crushed my foot against that wall.”
BAM!
That hurts. He’s never been unkind to me before. I didn’t intent to hurt him but if he wants me to continue this way he must understand I’m only trying to keep him out of danger. I wish he’d pay attention to what is ahead; maybe he would see what I’m trying to do. This is starting to really hurt.
There He is again. I’ll just lie down and perhaps Balaam won’t beat me.
BAM!
“Get up you unintelligent, dim-witted creature. If I had a sword right now I’d get rid of you once and for all.”
I’m not taking this anymore without saying something.
“You’ve hit me three times, why?” The unintelligent, dim-witted creature said.
“You’ve disobeyed me three times for no reason and hurt me too. You’ve deserved it. If only I had a sword.”
“But I’ve done nothing wrong. We’ve been together many years, ever since I was just a youngster. Have I ever done anything like this before?”
“Well, no.”
“Then open your eyes!”
The Angel of the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes. Before Balaam stood the most powerful Being he had ever seen. In His hand was a sharp two edged sword, gleaming in the light radiating from His Person.
“Oh my Lord!”
Raising His sword across His body, “Why did you strike your donkey these three times? I was ready to strike you dead but your donkey saved you. Your ways are contrary and perverse before Me. If she hadn’t turned away I would have killed you!”
“I have sinned against You. Perhaps I should turn back if it displeases you.”
“Continue on but only say what I tell you to…and perhaps you should listen to your donkey a little more closely.”
Now who’s the dummy? A closed mouthed donkey winks.

That aside, this is a great POV for the story. Keep up the good work.
