Lisa was in the devil’s prison. Her room was her cell, cold, overbearing, and shut off from the rest of the world. Sure, it was decorated with things that she liked. Why, she had even chosen the things to go on her walls, the color of the paint and furniture. But all of that was a disguise; a way to keep her mind from wandering what else there could be outside her tiny world.
Lisa’s door made up her bars, easy enough to open but she feared what she would run into on the other side. Raised to fear the unknown and the different, she would stay here where she knew it was safe rather than go out to find out for herself. Her cell would remain shut and she would stay locked away. Nothing could reach her.
Lisa’s parents were her guards, their atheist ways the law, their cold stares and narrow minds their armor, and their harsh and scolding words their swords, sure to cut just as deep as steel. They stood ward over her door, making sure their prisoner would not leave and would not hear such views as outsiders shared. She would have no visitors, no friends coming to her prison to sneak her a key.
But it was there. She found the key in her very own room for it was part of a decoration that so many people have stuck in their homes for no other purpose than to fit in. And it was disguised, the golden key to her cell and problems hidden in the form of leather and paper, sitting right in the open where anyone could use it but never did. Until today. In her misery, Lisa finally decided to turn to the one place she thought she would never turn. She opened her mind and her Bible as one, letting the words pour through her mind and soul. She heard the promises of God and nothing else in all the world mattered.
Using this key to its full ability, she opened her heart unto God and allowed him to grace her spirit. Jesus was there as well, stepping into her heart, her new escape partner in her times of need. She found the key. Nothing could stand in her way. Today her cell would no longer hold her, the phony decorations meaning nothing to her at all. Today her cell door would fly from its hinges when it attempted to hold her back, falling useless and slack to the floor. Today her parent’s armor would crumble under her gaze, turning to ash and dust at their feet and their swords would bust on her skin like glass brought to stone. They would be useless.
For today, Lisa had found the key. Today, Lisa is free.
