Do you care to hear my story? It wouldn’t take too much of your time and who knows you might just learn a lesson, maybe two. It’s a simple story of love, a tale of truth told in the most mundane way.
A lovely teenage girl fell in love with a guy; someone who could only see her as a friend. In a childlike manner she tried to express her love but deep fears held her back, made her believe he would laugh and walk away. So she withheld from facing her friend instead she faced the wall and cried to God, “I feel lost and in so much distress. Please let him love me, my heart needs to find its way home.”
Then years passed and she grew into a lovely lady. On the first day in college she ran into her childhood friend. He had grown taller and his skin darker but his eyes still held the sparkle when he laughed. He still captured her heart with the aura of his presence. The lovely lady hoped they could finally have a chance together. She hoped hard until one evening she saw her heartthrob on a date with a beauty she could not compare to. Crushed, broken she ran into her little corner and prayed her favorite verses, “Please let him love me, my heart needs to find its way home.” Years rolled by and she silently endured the torture of watching him date other women in college. She fantasized he loved her dearly and she was not just another face in the crowd. But that was all it was- fantasies.
Then as a grown woman with so much to say, pretty beauty decided to take a chance on life. Finally summoning the courage, she pulled him effortlessly out of his busy work schedule into the serenity of her home. Without reservation she poured out her heart to him like the gentle yet bold flow of a lagoon, words of love flowed from her mouth without reservation. Shocked, bemused her childhood friend was beyond words. Slowly as he collected his wits about him, he told her a story similar to hers of how he had loved her since the first day he met her but let fear of rejection get the better of him. Neither knew what to say. On and on the silence dragged for what seemed like eternity until a gentle laugh broke the moment. They two friends decided to face their fears. They opted for friendship and nothing more only this time it was different the love they shared was mutual, unashamed and without fear. Finally at ease, pretty beauty stared into the eyes that had always held hers and whispered; “Now my heart can finally come to rest at home with you.”
