He built it many moons before
He wanted to give her the sunset
He remembered every nail, every board
The sky no longer blue, nor clouds white
It is twilight now, and a much warmer sky
They behold the heavens together on sunlit deck
They sit there, swaying back and forth
As one, upon white wooden rockers
They spy upon the pristine lake
They remember the honeymoon liner
Where the twilight had created these shades of pink
The sky, not as bright, but now much more serene
They behold earlier times together on sunlit deck
They lean into, silver strands caress
They notice the wooden flower box
He built it to give her petunias
They remember white bouquet on wedding day
Now in twilight years, their golden anniversary
The ambiance, now much more golden
They behold God’s beauty together on sunlit deck
They kiss there, inviolable lips
Leaves an afterglow of springlike reminence
They see peace in the valley
They see a world full of love
And as the sky had transformed before very eyes
In these twilight years, they view life in different light
They behold one another lovingly on sunlit deck
