The day had started out with the excitement of spending a day with his young son. They had attended the Pod races and later enjoyed a visit to the Oceanside Envirodome. The races had been entertaining but the trip to the dome had been most pleasurable, watching his son splash in the waves as he sat back and inhaled the intoxicating smells of the ocean. The Envirodomes had eight different environment simulations that were reproductions of an earlier habitation of the natural world, all encased in separate dome structures. Minutes earlier his son had been making plans with him to visit the Polarside Envirodome the next time they went on an adventure together.
It seemed impossible that a day could change so quickly, but then again he knew and was prepared for this dangerous new reality. Could it have been only a few short minutes ago that he had quickly gathered his son into his arms, sternly repeated a list of instructions, and safely tucked the boy tightly against himself? He quickly chose a well rehearsed scripture passage from his memory files and started to recite them silently.
He felt his son trembling next to him as the sound of footsteps approached. When the steps stopped nearby he could hear the humming sound of the mindwarper as it tried to locate a target. He concentrated intensely on the scripture he had been reciting and prayed his son was doing likewise. When no signal was detected, the sound of footsteps were heard once again but this time they retreated into the distance.
The number of demonoids, armed with mindwarpers, had appeared to be multiplying quickly. They seemed to have no difficulty adding more victims to their numbers. Using the mindwarpers to infiltrate the minds of their prey, the demonoids were then able to gain control of their victims’ thoughts and actions.
“Is it safe now, father?” the small boy whispered. “One minute more, just to make sure,” was the hushed reply.
The following minute seemed to last forever and the “okay” signal from his father was a welcomed relief.
“Son, you did very well this time. You have been working hard practicing your scripture memorization and your hard work has paid off,” complimented his father proudly.
The young boy now sat beside his father. He quickly offered up a smile and said, “We are sure lucky the elders found an antidote to prevent our minds from being invaded by those demonoids, and such an easy one at that!”
His father nodded in agreement. “What passage of scripture did you choose to recite this time? It seemed to work very well and you seemed much less fearful.”
“It was a new passage I learned, father. Not only did it protect my thoughts but it also calmed all my fears and reminded me that God is watching over me. It was Psalm 27 and the first verse says:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?”
The father hugged his son close. “It is too bad those older than you do not display such wisdom. We have lost too many already because they think it is irrelevant and trivial to prepare for such attacks. God’s Word is the only antidote that will guard our minds.”
“Father, it is said “The Word is sharper and more powerful than a two- edged sword” and now it is our only weapon.”
“Son, you have listened well. We need to make everyone aware of the simple antidote that is easily accessible to all. When the enemy is approaching we need to remain silent and focus our thoughts on God’s Word. The demonoids, equipped with their mindwarpers, will be incapable of detecting and controlling our thoughts and will pass us by untouched.”
The boy’s face brightened as he confidently remarked, “We can win this war over the control of man’s thoughts, using only God’s Word as our weapon. How simple is that?”
