ADD TO MY FAVORITES
the wonder in the tiny eyes,
God so big to them so small
how they soak, believe it all
unquestioning, the little souls
learn seeds of faith, swallowed whole!
how trusting! How God makes complete
their halting prayers – simple, sweet
The voices – loud and out of tune
echo round the modest room
as hearts combine with various noises -
praising God with earnest voices
The craft time – glue is everywhere
glitter on every face and hair -
excited babble as they draw,
paper snippets fill the floor
A teacher smiles as they feed -
the bible stories that they read
Jonah and the Whale accepted
simple belief, so unaffected
Playing shepherds – the towelling heads,
the dressing gowns, tie-on beards,
some dressed as angels, some as sheep
as baby Jesus falls asleep
Ending now, the tidy up,
clothes, toys, glue and glitter stuff
and even a teacher busy, fraught
can close in prayer and leave there,
taught.

Love the rhyme, the meter, the great imagery--this is a wonderful poem.
