As I opened my eyes and looked out the window, dawn was to starting to show signs of the light of day. The sun was beginning to reveal itself by peeking through the clouds, as they moved to give way to the sun.
I stretched and raised my arms above my head as I breathed in the newness of the day. What a great feeling it was to soak up the quietness of the moment. This was something I had not taken time to appreciate before. I started to ponder all that lay ahead today. What new things lie in store for me? I was encouraged within my heart knowing that whatever the day held, I was not alone.
With a new purpose, I climbed out of bed and took care of the necessary things that helped to get the day going. I briskly made my way downstairs to breakfast; eager for the day to begin. Having recently made up my mind, I was filled with determination to move forward with certain decisions that I had made. They were intended for my own good and needed to be put into action before indecision crept in.
As I entered the kitchen, thoughts of my Mom came to mind. This is where she always greeted me every morning. Her cheery smile always seemed to take the edge off of whatever it was that I was dealing with at the moment. She had a calming nature, and her smile seemed to make things a little easier to handle for me. I wanted a dose of her cheerfulness right now.
As I made toast and got the coffee going, I recalled some of the things I had left behind in my old life. I had to inspire myself not to drift back and take up a narrow-minded mindset. It was already taking a spirit of courage to go forward without flinching as I attempted these new steps. I have found something precious and new, but still fragile to me. I pray that nothing will interfere or cause these moments to cease. My life was headed in a direction that I was pleased with.
My friend Joe had a lot to do with some of the changes in my life. He is my childhood friend; someone I can talk to and be myself with. A couple of months ago, Joe started telling me that he was a believer and trusted in his friend. I said what you a believer of; and who is this friend of yours? He said the one who wants us to cast our cares at his feet because he cares for you; and the one who loves us more than we could ever love ourselves. Joe told me somewhere along the way he had learned to trust in his friend. Joe also said that he had finally made peace with his past and was putting those things behind him so that he could move forward with the future.
It was at this time in my own life that I was bone weary and wanted things to be different for me too. I wanted something or someone to give my problems to. I was tired of shouldering burdens. Joe spent a lot of time with me. He told me about this church he was going to and about how hearing the word of God that finally he was convicted enough to change his life.
I asked him what I needed to do. He said I needed to believe in this friend who could take me from the place where I was, and move me to a place of peace in my life. I was encouraged to confess my sins before God and ask him to come into my life. I took a deep breath, looked Joe in the eye and said that I was ready to do just that. For me, it was a leap of faith. I didn’t know what the outcome would be, but I felt strongly that I needed to do this for myself. I bowed my head as I confessed and tears started falling. I thought of all that had gone on before in my life. At that very moment, those shed tears felt cleansing to my soul. I went away that day knowing in my heart that I was a believer and had truly found a friend in Jesus.
