God loves us unconditionally. No matter what we do, say, or think, He loves us. Even when we sin, all we have to do is repent and ask for forgiveness and He will forgive us. God is always there for us. He guides, directs, leads, encourages, and teaches us. He helps us when we are in trouble. Also, although He understands us and has patience with us, He punishes and redirects us when we need to be corrected. God also meets all our needs. He nourishes and feeds our body, mind, and spirit.
God wants to have a personal relationship with us, just as our earthly parents do. He wants us to talk to Him, seek Him, love Him, and obey Him. We do this by praising Him, reading His Scripture, praying to Him, following Him, and loving Him and others. God also listens to us, just like any good parent should do.
Just as our earthly parents like to give us gifts, so does God. All He asks is that we thank Him for His gifts and share our blessings with others. Parents often sacrifice things for their children; God made the ultimate sacrifice for us: He gave us His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins so that we could have eternal life and spend it with Him.
There are no perfect earthly parents, but we are so blessed to have God as our perfect heavenly parent!
