TITLE: The Global Winds of Change By Lynne Fickett 07/27/07 |
|
All around the world,
Do you see our world is changing, now, can you see it?
Can you feel the climate of our world is turning upside-down?
From the media: The local and the national news—
They’re all the same, just a different flavor
AS they weave a juicy byline for us to savor.
Every day the news is changing,
All those wildfires wildly raging,
While torrential rains give up their rivers of tears,
Swelling riverbanks beyond their bounds
And leave oceans flooding the already saturated ground.
Global warming—our poor farmers
Oh how they need the rain to spill upon the dusty earth:
What’s hot is hotter, what’s cold gets warmer,
Our water supplies are getting lower;
The wildlife and nature that we hold so dear
All upset the delicate balance of our ecosphere.
Adversity and scandals abound, it’s in the daily news.
For a time your power and your riches hide
The ill-gotten gain stored in your coffers, deep.
Trickery, like the charming of a pois’nous snake,
Is charmed to do your will;
You think it will never bite you, but when it strikes
It will surely drink its fill.
The media will hound you, and share the news abroad,
You will be wise to humble yourself
And openly confess your fraudulent ways.
Hurricane winds blowing steadily
Against our southern shores,
Crashing mighty waves into levees
Until they could take it no more;
They crumbled under your heavy-handed assault like sand.
Oh, Hurricane, Katrina,
Dreams and lives were utterly destroyed in an instant that day;
A way of life for thousands was broken—gone.
Concerned people from everywhere reached out—
Searching for the lost in motor boats
People set a drift on housetops without a moorings;
They looked out to the vast ocean and scanned the skies
For someone’s vigilant eye to see and save them.
And still more forever lost their lives to a watery graves.
God sent helpers from afar to ease the burdens of many,
But how can they rebuild such a city to its former state?
A devastated people cried out,
“Where were You, God when this catastrophe happened?
Why didn’t you save my family from this devastation?”
Tsunami waves traveling to a distant shore,
Volcanic action rumbling across the ocean floor;
Gorging on sea water,
They arch their backs and lift their heads high,
Spitting violence with their contemptuous voices
Over the warm, dry ground.
Wise old men that knew the signs of coming danger did warn
All people to go up to higher ground.
Set up are the balances, consider the cost,
To linger is to be counted as one of the lost.
The peoples who received the warning cried out,
“Help us make it up to higher ground!”
Climbing higher and higher over jungle terrain
Offering a hand to a neighbor is gain.
They saw nature’s destruction firsthand
From their lofty island perch
Down upon the island sand.
The earth and its people are fearful
Awaiting the next onslaught of terror
From your loathsome mouth.
The inexperience of youth did not heed the warning
And frolicked with vacationers
On the warm beach sand.
They played and drank and had their fun
Their time of mourning has just begun.
The winds of change are hovering over a vast wasteland,
Squint your eyes a bit, now, can’t you see it?
Soldiers living on the razor’s edge,
Such fierceness is the art of war,
Where the goal is just to
Make the American death toll soar;
The Killing Fields once again open their ravenous mouths
On a new land of destruction,
Tanks, helicopters, and weapons of war
Weaving across the landscape
Cause civilians to flee,
Hopes and prayers reach heaven for safety and security
And for joyous reunion across the (___) sea.
The winds of change are coming
Blowing wildly across the plains and desert sand.
Can’t you feel them blowing across the blood-soaked land?
The breaths of our brethren, fallen comrades, all,
Stolen from this earth way too soon.
Can’t you feel the pervading sadness of heart?
Sadness brought on by a blood-thirsty war
That’s left us bruised, beaten, and worn.
The soldiers and parents of the fallen cry out,
“Why have You taken my loved ones away?
Howis our pain a part of Your glorious plan?”
The winds of change are moving
And they’re changing their direction,
Reaching out to all whose hearts are open
To feel the Lord’s compassion;
It doesn’t require the ethnic cleansing
Of religion, creed or race,
He reaches out to those of every land
And offers us His grace.
The winds of change will never cease to blow,
It’s God’s Word that’s told us so.
The winds of change will keep on blowing,
Much harder in the coming days will be the
Fate of man;
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed…..Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains….Because of increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
Matthew 24:6-7, 12-13
As the winds of change blow over you
Remember the love that He has poured out for you. Open your heart and let Him enrich your hearts and lives daily.
