I wrote this in honor of not only our dear friend and colleague Sandy Henry who recently passed away, but for all of those near and dear to our hearts who are waiting for us to join them on the other side. Our grief is real on this side of the door, but on the other, we shall celebrate once more and share with each other all the things we shared here and the things we held back for in that place, we shall finally, live as one with God.
Safe, On The Other Side

If today my foot should land
For the final time to be
On cliffs of eternal beauty
To gaze out over the sea

If today my wings should fail
To carry me to places unknown
And land me in some other time
Where no one else had gone

If today my dreams of earthly things
We’re no longer my only goal
And in place of that no want
Earth bound no more my soul

Should today I open eyes to stand
On this side of the door
And the earthly things that were in my way
Had blocked what heaven had in store

I wonder if I’d miss my life
The things I held so dear
Knowing that the other side
Had always been so near

I think that I should never miss
Any earthly manner of things
Because of His great promise
And what it’s sure to bring

For on the other side one day
Together we shall sing
About the wonders of his love
And all that it will bring

We will gather with the others
That we all held oh so dear
Our family and our friends
And they’ve all been ever near

I cannot wait to join them
When these wings no longer glide
For I know that they will land me
Safe on the other side.
