Long are his lonely nights and drab his dreary days;
How his world has changed since they put him in this place;
Far from the old farmhouse---the wide green fields of home;
In these strange surroundings, he feels so all alone.

His whole wide world is framed by one large window pane,
Staring out at nothing and nothing seems to change;
Feelings of abandonment grip his heart and soul---
Deep within he yearns for happy days from long ago.

Episodes of life reflect before him on the glass---
Hazy recollections, dim echoes from the past---
Hidden scenes that play behind his far-off gaze,
Of times when he was part of other people’s days.

He wanders down remembrance lane all on his own,
Visiting the farmhouse---his old familiar home---
A place filled with laughter in happy days long gone---
His sweet comfort zone---the place where he belonged.

Matron shuts the blind on the window of his dreams;
Regretfully he’s back in vacant dull routine.
When tomorrow comes and his view is clear once more,
Maybe he’ll return to those days from long ago.

Oh Vincent, this is just so beautiful... written so well. But the message is heart-wrenching, knowing that this sad condition exists for millions of people. This piece is filled with raw emotion. Good job!
It is so sad to me, knowing how unhappy my mom was at the end of her life. But there seemed no alternative. The title on this poem is excellent too. God bless you, Linda

Is this what we're reduced to ? For some, i'm afraid the answer is yes. Hauntingly beautiful !
