The Gadget 2000

With the summer sun beating down and my fan gone amiss
I joined with my 2 friends Corrina and Chris
What happened that day one must not dismiss
You’ll hardly believe it, it went something like this

The first thing we did was bike on our bikes
We then rode our skates and then flew our kites
With nothing much left to make use of our time
We went to the mall to see what we’d find

We looked high and low from bottom to top
We each had some candy and red soda pop
But one thing we found stopped us dead in our tracks
It almost made each of us drop all our snacks

In the very last store at the end of the mall
We found the most fabulous gadget of all
It could turn about 20 shades of bright blue
And that’s just the start of the things it could do

It flipped forwards and back from one side to the other
This gadget had so many things to discover
I had to get one, and Corrina did too
But Chris didn’t want one, he had to buy 2

I was happy to have my one gadget in hand
But why Chris got two I could not understand
So the next day I went back to the store at the mall
And I bought 2 more gadgets so I had most of all

But when I got home to my great surprise
Corrina had went too, and now she had 5
She grinned a sly grin with her nose in the air
And I shouted and stomped because this wasn’t fair

I walked to the door to go back to the store
But then in walked Chris who had just bought 4 more
I looked at Corrina and she looked at Chris
We all knew that something had gone quite amiss

As I counted the gadgets I had to insist
“We can and we’ve got to do better than this”

We went back to the mall for the last time of all
To return all the gadgets but guess what we saw
A brand new updated gadget at the store
The gadget 2000 with features galore

It had about 50 nice shades of the bright green
And could flip more directions than I’d ever seen
It could crouch down real low or stand up real tall
It made the old gadget look like nothing at all

I looked at Corrina, she gave Chris a smirk
Then Chris looked at me and I looked at the clerk
I bought 2 new gadgets and Corrina bought 4
Chris had the most money so he bought even more

I ran home with my gadgets to my mom I did cry
“I need some more money; I’ve got gadgets to buy”
She gave my allowance but it was too late
By the time I got there Corrina had bought 8

Chris piled 10 gadgets on the counter with pride
So I grabbed 13, I would not be denied
Chris added 3, so I added 4
We had all the gadgets there were in the store

When we returned home with our gadgets in tow
What to do with them all we just did not know
Our rooms were a mess all our money was gone
Every cent I had made from mowing the lawn

I decided to return all my gadgets once more
And you just won’t believe who I saw at the store
Corrina and Chris returning their toys
And who was behind us but 1 girl and two boys

Waiting to buy all the gadgets we had
When I saw the three waiting I felt rather sad
I looked at them all and then said “I insist
We can and we’ve got to do better than this”

The girl and the boys were confused as could be
They wanted the gadgets they’d seen on tv
I told them to trust me just one gadget would do
It may be a bad thing if you have to buy two

They looked at each other and said “let’s be fair
We’ll buy just one gadget and then we will share”
Since we had all our money and it wasn’t dark
We each bought a glove and played ball in the park
