Devotionals
As we near the Easter season I wanted to take a few weeks to just focus on the gift that Christ gave us at the cross. It is hard for me to imagine that in a blessed country as ours, that others still do not know the true meaning of Easter.
When I was raising my children, I made every effort to let them know what Easter is about.
• It is about an unfathomable love that the Father has for us.
• It is about thanksgiving.
• It is about celebrating life.
• It is about wonders and miracles.
• Easter is about worshipping the One True God.
• It is about the faithfulness of God.
• It is about a cruel cross
• It is about forgiveness.
• It is about hope.
• It is a testimony for all those who are in Christ.
• It is about one holy sacrifice.
• It is about a Risen Savior
As I reflect on what Easter is I must go on to say what Easter is not.
• It is not candy in a basket
• It is not about Easter egg hunts
• It is not about a bunny rabbit
• It is not about an Easter Lily
• It is not about new clothes to wear to church
• It is not about a big feast to eat
Many of us have made Easter whatever we wish it to be. To Jesus it was something much more! As he carried His cross up that hill, and as he laid down his life willingly, He cried out to God.
At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice,
"ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" which is translated,
"MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"
Mark 15:34 NASB
You see, it was at this appointed time that the sin of the world rest on the shoulders of this blameless sacrifice, God’s only Son. God had to turn His back as not to see our sin.
In closing, regardless of how many times I hear the Easter story, I still am amazed at this one truth: “He turned His back on His own Son, so He could turn His heart towards me.
