Will Rogers said, "There's two theories to arguing with a women --
neither one works." Will, that wasn't very nice.

Have you ever heard, "All I know, I learned from someone else?"
If you have to apply that statement to your knowledge of the Bible,
you could be in trouble. Many people are involved in the cults just
because of that.

A very familiar verse of Scripture is 2 Tim. 2:15 (niv), "Do YOUR
best to present YOURSELF to God as one approved, a workman
who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the
word of truth." That places the responsibility for understanding
God's word on YOU. Of course we rightly rely on pastors and
teachers to help us in our quest for understanding the truth, but the
ultimate responsibility is our own. We need to know the Word for
ourselves so that we can't be misled.

The following is "gross" and repulsive, but would you want
someone else to chew your food for you and then give it to you for
swallowing -- yuch! Apply that concept to your knowledge of
Scripture.

In the 1800's, a man named Darby came up with some new theories
that were picked up and amplified by Scofield and widely
distributed in the Scofield edition of the Bible. Because of that,
those theories were widely spread and just assumed by many to be
as infallible as Scripture. That's a risky assumption. It is YOUR
responsibility to search the Scriptures on your own and not be
misled.

Can you still sing it -- "The B-I-B-L-E, yes that's the book for me;
I stand ALONE on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E."
