"Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men."(Proverbs 22:29)

Have you every heard the career advice that "whatever you do, be the best you can be, and success will be yours?" That is a cultural rewrite of this Proverb. Jesus often spoke of workers, and told many parables about good and bad employees (often referred to as "stewards"). The clear implication of these teachings is that a child of God should apply themselves to knowing their jobs well, and doing their jobs with excellence. If you adopt that standard people will take notice, and you will develop a great reputation in your chosen field. Doing a sloppy job is a bad testimony, and any number of tracts and bumper stickers will not make up for poor stewardship in your work. A Christian should be the best employee any boss has ever had! Be one, to the glory of God!
