This week I will be another year older - whether I change or not. Which would I be -- another year with good changes in my life or another year without them? I realize one is never too old to change for the better. It's never too late unless one won't begin taking the step.

Changes for the better come from passion about what life is about. Passion is a source of energy and progress. As Benjamin Franklin wrote, "Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young."

Another lesson is when birthdays fly, new opportunities may appear. So, in my case, I plunge! It's never too late to start a new career or make a dramatic change in my life. Sure there are risks involved. But why should I be afraid of life? Birthdays may always be a call for action now.

I love this poem by Edward Tuck:

"Age is a quality of the mind.
If you have left your dreams behind,
If hope is cold;
If you no longer look ahead,
If your ambition's fires are dead --
Then you are old.

But if from life you take the best,
And if in life you keep the jest,
If love you hold;
No matter how the years go by,
No matter how the birtdays fly --
You are not old."
