HOW TO OVERCOME DISCOURAGEMENT

How do you respond when disappointment comes your way in life?

There is always the tendency to blame both yourself and others when disappointments come knocking at your door.

More often than not, we find it difficult to know what to do because we cannot quite identify the real cause or purpose of the letdown.

The right response when discouragement comes knocking at your door is to simply fix your eyes on Jesus and trust Him to see you through your problem.

We read in 1 Samuel 1:10 – 20 that Hannah had a good reason to feel discouraged and bitter. She was unable to bear children. She shared her husband with a woman who ridiculed her.

Her loving husband could not solve her problem and even the high priest misunderstood her motives. But instead of retaliating or giving up hope, Hannah prayed. She brought her problem honestly before God.

We all sometimes face times of ‘barreness’ when nothing ‘comes to birth’ in our work, ministry, or relationships.

It is difficult to pray in faith when we feel so ineffective. But, as Hannah discovered, prayer opens the way for God to work.

Accomplishing any large task can be tiring. There are always pressures that foster discouragement - the task seems impossible, it can never be finished or too many factors are working against us.

The only cure for fatigue, burn out and discouragement is to focus on God’s promises. Always remember your calling, goal and God’s protection and providence for your life.

When discouragement comes knocking at your door respond by putting your trust in the Lord Jesus and remember His plans and purpose for your life.

You have a friend in Jesus who sticks closer to you than a brother and His word assures you that He will never leave you or forsake you.

So if you are overwhelmed by your assignment, tired and discouraged, do not give up for your faith will see you through. Your persistence will surely be rewarded.
