Peter and the other apostles were huddled in the boat as waves crashed against it in the dark. Peter did not know why Jesus made them get into this boat ahead of them and meet him on the other side of the lake. Peter and the other apostles had just witnessed a miracle where several thousand people were fed with just five barley loaves and two fish. After Jesus dismissed the huge crowd, he noticed the boat on the lake and then Jesus went up alone on a mountain to pray.

Peter and the other apostles could hardly see anything as they looked out at the dark and windswept lake. Peter and the others all of a sudden saw what looked like something strange floating across the lake. Peter and the others saw that it was Jesus walking on the lake toward them. " It's a ghost" the apostles cried out in fear, terrified as they were.

Jesus immediately said to them " take courage it is I, don't be afraid". Peter said to Jesus " Lord, if it's you tell me to come to you on the water". " Come" Jesus said to Peter. Then Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water and came toward Jesus.

Peter was walking on the water toward Jesus, when all of a sudden, Peter saw the wind and became afraid. Peter began to sink in the waves and Peter cried out " Lord, save me". Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter. " You of little faith" Jesus said to Peter" Why did you doubt". Jesus and Peter climbed into the boat and the wind died down. The apostles in the boat worshiped Jesus saying " truly you are the son of God".
