Green Pastures

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; Psalm 23: 1-2a

The psalmist, being a shepherd, knew that a shepherd is needed when dealing with sheep. 

Sheep so  desperately need shepherding. The psalmist confesses, “The LORD is my shepherd” and because of this he had everything he needed. He  would suffer no want and how could he, when he had such a shepherd who knew him so well and could foresee every need before he himself was aware of it.

Green pastures are nutritious pastures....a pasture in which a sheep could be well-fed. Other pastures would be all around; sparse of grass, arid and rocky but this Shepherd in question made the sheep to lie down in green pastures; pastures suited to the sheep’s every need. Who orchestrated this “lying down”...the shepherd who indicated to the sheep that this is where they should stay and rest.
