“May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose. We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.” Psalm 20:4,5

The psalmist must have had some assurance that the hearts’ desires of those seeking and following the LORD would be right or he could not express that he hoped for the granting of those desires by the LORD. Those who love the LORD and desire to please Him with their lives have the wonderful privilege of the prospect of their heart’s desire being fulfilled and also the LORD’s will for their lives to be manifested.

Collectively, says the psalmist, we will rejoice in your salvation and the flag under which we will rally is the banner of the LORD. Once again his desire is that prayers directed toward the LORD would know the blessing of fulfillment in the will of the LORD.

Because the LORD has the capabilities to fulfill all my petitions and to grant me “according to my heart’s desires”, may my petitions fall in line with His will that His name would be glorified in the granting. Outside of His will no heart’s desire or petition will be granted. He reserves the right to veto, by His grace and for His glory.
