“I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them.

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings, from the wicked who oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.” Psalm 17: 6-9

Once again the confidence in the LORD’s attendance to his life is revealed in his speech, “ I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God.” Why cry out to someone who ignores you or is powerless to help you?

The psalmist is assured that the ear of the LORD will be inclined toward him and his words will be heard. A display of the LORD’s lovingkindness was what he longed to see, and he knew that this lovingkindness would be manifested in His saving grace to those who trust in Him.

A place of utmost security would be the resting place in the LORD as the apple of His eye and in the shelter of the enclosing safety of His wings. The psalmist knew thathis enemies were strong, yes, indeed deadly, but his God was more than able to deliver.

Because I too need the security of this confidence in a listening Lord who acts on my behalf, may I grow stronger and more confident in the reality of His being such, by His grace and for His glory.
