The below is based on Luke 8:40-42 and 49-56.

My name is Jairus. I am a synagogue leader. Today my world is turned upside down. I am numb and totally distraught. I have had doctors at my house. They tell me my young daughter will die. They are truly sorry, but do not have any cure for my young daughter. My position, nothing seems to matter. I am helpless as my daughter fades away. I cannot imagine not being able to ever hold her again, tell her I love her, see her smile and hear her laugh. My God, she is my only child!

Someone tells me that Jesus is near. I run to Him. I am truly in despair. I am so distraught. I don’t know what to do. I have heard so much good about this man. But what can He do for my daughter? I must find Him. I must try!

I see Jesus! I fall at His feet. “Please come, my daughter is dying. I don’t know what to do.” I look deep into His eyes. “Please help me” I say through sobbing eyes.

He walks with me toward my house. But, a friend comes forth and tells me that my daughter has died, and that I should not trouble the Master any longer. My heart begins to drop to a level I had never known. Darkness begins to fill my all. But Jesus moves in front of me. He takes me by the arms and looks deep into my eyes. I can feel His eyes pierce my soul and my heart. “Do not fear, but believe, and your daughter will be healed.” What is it that this man is saying to me? My emotions are now confused. Slowly a calm begins to fill my soul. I do not know what shall happen, but this man has touched my soul deeply. It has never been touched this way before.

As we reach the house many are crying and mourning. Jesus says that my daughter is just sleeping and not dead. They all laugh. Is that doubt creeping back into my mind? I must stop it! I must believe! Somehow, a miracle is in the making.

Jesus only allows my wife and I and three of His followers to enter the room where my daughter lies lifeless. This man Jesus takes my daughter’s hand in His and says “Arise my daughter, and live again!” It is beyond belief. I see my daughter begin to breathe and open her eyes! Jesus helps her to her feet, and asks that we get her something to eat! The feelings that rush through the core of my being are so many! My world is such as it has never been before. This man has given as no one else could possibly give. I and my house shall always believe in and follow this man, Jesus Christ!
