DENIAL

You will all fall away because of me this night for it is written, “I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered”. Matthew 26:31 NASB

In the Gospel books of Matthew, Mark, and John, Peter’s denial of Jesus is spelled out in great detail. Poor Peter! When the cock crowed and Jesus looked at him, Peter realized his great mistake. Peter went out and cried like a baby.

Peter’s denial of Christ was not the only time that our Lord has been put aside. Though I don’t recall ever saying that I didn’t know and love Jesus, I have denied Him in other ways.

Have you ever kept quiet when a nonbeliever ranted on about his disbelief? Did you do this for fear of embarrassing him or others who were listening? I have!

Jesus advised us to love one another as He loves us. Have you ever been extremely angry with another person? Have you ever said unkind words to or about another? I have!

Have you ever failed to help someone in distress? Have you ever failed to visit a friend who was sick or suffering? I have!

Most of my mistakes have not been overt. They have been mistakes of omission. If I don’t stand up to defend another person, physically or emotionally, that is a sin of omission. If I don’t have time to visit a sick friend, that is a sin of omission. If a salesperson gives me too much change for my purchase and I don’t give back the extra change, that is a sin of omission.

Lord, Thank you for forgiving us our sins of commission and omission. Amen
