DAY THIRTY NINE

JEZEBEL:

Her influence

“Notwithstanding, I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication’s; and she repented not.” (Revelation 2:20, 21)

The greatest way that Satan has to deceive people is by speaking lies. People who are not properly grounded in God’s truth are easy prey for Satan’s lies to influence them. In our modern times, it is easier to spot these deceptions to what is happening in politics. These lies begin by offering hope to people in order to get them to follow. People whose desire is for gain will follow those who promise that their life will be better because they chose to follow him. It does not take a majority vote to gain a following. People with large sums of money along with popularity and eloquence become influential. In Daniel chapter 11:23, we are told that the final king (antichrist) will take over just a small amount of people and gain control over the majority. Notice the following is gained, then false teaching and indoctrination follow. Perhaps it starts out with just a few people, that the influence of the teachings makes them stronger and more influential in leading others. We are led to believe that this is what was happening in the church at Thyatira. Understanding the methods and deception used by Satan to gain a majority vote helps us to understand why this has taken place. It also helps us to understand the importance of being firmly grounded and taught truth by those responsible for doing so. Throughout the book of Jeremiah, we are told of false shepherds who have fed God’s sheep with food that will result in their destruction.
