Refreshing Rain (Psalm 68:9)
“You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance.” (NIV)
Today’s eWord is about God’s healing rain. He has seen the weariness of His people and He is promising to refresh them with His presence. Are you weary? Are you thirsty for God’s rain? Have you been feeling as though you have been living through a war? You may be feeling tired because of the relentless daily grind, but the Lord wants to pour out His presence on you and make you whole again. He wants to refresh you with His abundant rain, the outpouring of His Spirit! Psalm 72:6 says: “He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, like showers that water the earth.” (NIV) This is what Abba wants to do for you, to saturate you with His presence and permeate into the very depths of your body, spirit and soul. Revival is what He has in store!
This psalm was written by David when he was experiencing a time of warfare and enemy activity. It alternates between thoughts on warfare and thoughts on worship, which is very significant because worship can shake nations and move mountains! Psalm 68 shows us that our refreshing comes from resting in God’s presence, and that our gateway into that secret place is worship. Worship is so powerful because it connects us to heaven. It brings us right into the heart of God. Jesus said (in John 4:23 & 24) that the Father is seeking true worshipers, those who worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. Our Abba is not looking for worship; He is seeking true worshipers, those whose hearts are wholly given over to Him. So let me encourage you dear friend, to step into that realm of continuous connection and heart to heart worship, because when your worship rises up, it draws down the ‘Rain’. You could regularly stop (even for a few minutes) in the middle of your day to acknowledge and declare the Lordship of Jesus over your life. You can look away from your screen even now and look up to the glorious One, and tell Him how much you love Him and want to be with Him! All it takes is a few seconds to connect with Abba, to hold His hand for a moment and to breathe Him in, before you turn back to the tasks in your day, or to invite His presence to come into your meeting or your doctor’s appointment or your visit to the grocery store. All-powerful El Shaddai has covenanted to be with you forever, and every time you acknowledge Him and worship Him, you draw His presence into your daily life. You release yourself into Him and receive some of His sweet, heavenly, refreshing anointing. I urge you to try this – it will change your life! You will be practicing the presence of God as Brother Lawrence did many hundreds of years ago.
There are many people reading this message who may have been saying “I cannot go on any more”. Whatever it is you are going through, know that the Holy Spirit is only a whisper away. Invite Him now to come and fall afresh upon you, to cover you like the refreshing rain which waters the earth. Rain brings cleansing, moisture, nutrients, and life to the earth. It penetrates into the depths of the earth and is stored in reservoirs for future use. All this is what Abba wants to do for you. Places where your “earth” has been cracked, parched, hard and dry are to receive the sweet renewal which only the Holy Spirit can bring. Wherever you are in your walk with the Lord, you need more of His rain, and more of His reign! Step into the realms of His presence. Step into His glory through your praise. God loves you and He has great victory in store for you, hallelujah! “So come Holy Spirit. Fall afresh on us today. Shower down your glory as we ask you for your Rain!”
