What Plagues You?
Matt 6:25 ... do not worry about your life... (NIV)

Sunday 4 a.m., a cricket tried to jump in bed with me. I’d been plagued by him for weeks. Sometimes he’d wait in the shower for me. Other times he’d wait until I was almost asleep and then start his little cricket noises. Crickets, related to grasshoppers and locusts, were mentioned in the Bible at least nine times. One was the plague God brought on the Egyptians (Exodus 10:4-7)

Christians are faced with plagues. A plague can be any affliction, burden or worry. A plague in our life can be physical. We have too many chores and feel run-down or our loved one’s health is in jeopardy. Perhaps the demands are mental. We worry about our children or aging parents. This worry is like the noise of the crickets, dull and incessant. We may not have enough money to pay the bills. Our plague can be spiritual with Satan causing us grief or trying to destroy our faith.

Solution to cricket problems: give your worry to the Lord. Jesus said to take his yoke and our burden will be light. He will help us when we are weary and give us rest. Cast our care on Jesus (Psalm 55:22.) Cricket noises can turn into happy cricket songs. Proverbs tells us that having a happy heart makes the spirit well. (Proverbs 15: 13)
